The City that Never Sleeps is an interactive installation creating a vertical bed for Melbourne city dwellers.
Melbourne is pursuing its vision of becoming an open-all-hours city. Both the biological and mental reliance of the ceremonial moment of sun going down is disappearing for the city inhabitants. Thereby falling asleep is increasingly considered as a forcible weakness of the body not being able to keep awake rather than a liminal state of mind that reminds us of our living nature. The work performs as a standing-up bed that implies Amy’s intention to bring back the poetic message of sleep.
